On 28th August 2019, at a press conference held at the Provincial Secretariat, Namirembe, the Rt. Rev. Edison Irigei, Dean of the Church of Uganda, announced that the Rt. Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba was elected the 9th Archbishop of the Church of Uganda. The election was held during a meeting of the House of Bishops on Wednesday, 28th August 2019, at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe.


The election was by secret ballot and was presided over by the Provincial Chancellor. Bishop Kaziimba was elected with more than a two-thirds majority, per the Constitution of the Church of Uganda.

Bishop Kaziimba was consecrated Bishop on 26th October 2008 and has served as the Bishop of Mityana Diocese for almost eleven years.

He was born on 15th August 1962 in Buikwe Najja to Besweri Kaddu and Jessica Nanyonjo. He was born again as a Christian in 1984.

Bishop Kaziimba did his diploma and undergraduate degree in theology from Uganda Christian University, Mukono, and received his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Western Theological Seminary, Holland, Michigan (USA).

In addition to his responsibilities as a diocesan Bishop, Bishop Kaziimba also currently serves as the Chairman of the Provincial Board of Household and Community Transformation, as well as the Chair of the Board of Trustees for Ndejje University, Chair of the Committee for HIV and Public Health for the Interreligious Council of Uganda, and Chair of Words of Hope Uganda Radio Ministry.



About his calling, Bishop Kaziimba says, "Since I have known Christ, I want Him to be known by word and life in the power of the Holy Spirit." He has a passion for empowering others and developing the church, a subject he has written about in his 2015 book, Empowering the Laity, published by Words of Hope, Grand Rapids, Michigan (USA).

Bishop Kaziimba is married to Margaret Naggayi Bulya, a strong Christian and Intercessor. They both come from humble backgrounds. “God has raised me from a hut to a state house, from nobody to somebody, from shame to fame, from grass to grace and from nowhere to somewhere,” says Bishop Kaziimba.

Bishop Kaziimba is a popular preacher at large conventions in Uganda and internationally.

The Kaziimbas have four grown sons, two grandchildren, and have also cared for and raised more than 20 other children.

On 22nd August 2018, during the 24th Provincial Assembly, Archbishop Stanley Ntagali announced his intention to retire by his 65th birthday on 1st March 2020.

Archbishop Stanley Ntagali has served as the 8th Archbishop of the Church of Uganda. Elected on 22nd June 2012, he was installed as Archbishop on 16th December 2012 at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe. He has served with distinction for seven years; consecrated 21 new Bishops and launched three new Dioceses. It is under his leadership that Church House was finished and dedicated to the glory of God.

To be eligible to be an Archbishop, one must already be serving as a Bishop in the Church of Uganda, and must be at least 50 years old. Out of the 38 Bishops currently active in the Church of Uganda, 33 were eligible to become Archbishop.

The installation of the new Archbishop is expected to take place on 1st March 2020 at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe. At that time, Archbishop Stanley Ntagali will hand over the pastoral staff to Archbishop-elect Kaziimba, who will then be invested with the authority to lead the Church of Uganda as Archbishop. The Presiding Bishop at the enthronement will be the Dean of the Province, who is the longest serving Bishop in the Church at that time.

Between now and 1st March 2020, Archbishop Stanley Ntagali will continue to do the work of the Archbishop and the Bishop of Kampala Diocese, as well as continue to bid farewell to each of the 37 Dioceses.

The Archbishop-elect will say farewell to his Diocese and prepare to move to Kampala. His current Diocese will elect a new Bishop, since he will leave his Diocese to also become the Bishop of Kampala Diocese.

Bishop Edison Irigei, Dean of the Church of Uganda, said, “We thank God for His clear voice and direction among us for who shall be our next leader. We also ask all Christians to pray for this season of transition, especially for the Archbishop and Archbishop-elect who are bidding farewell in their dioceses, and for the Archbishop-elect to be prepared to receive the mantle of spiritual authority as Archbishop.”

The previous Archbishops of the Church of Uganda have been the following:
• 1st Archbishop Leslie Brown, a British missionary, was the first Archbishop of Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and Boga-Zaire (1961-1966)
• 2nd Archbishop Erica Sabiti (1966 – 1974)
• 3rd Archbishop Janani Luwum (1974 – 1977). Martyred in 1977.
• 4th Archbishop Silvanus Wani (1977 – 1983). In 1980, Rwanda, Burundi, and Boga-Zaire became a separate, Francophone Province, and Uganda became its own Province.
• 5th Archbishop Yona Okoth (1983 – 1995)
• 6th Archbishop Livingstone Mpalanyi-Nkoyoyo (1995 – 2004)
• 7th Archbishop Henry Luke Orombi (2004 - 2012)
• 8th Archbishop Stanley Ntagali (2012 - 2020)

The Archbishop of the internal province of Ghana,Most Rev. Daniel Yinka Sarfo has emphasized on the need for the Christian leadership to emulate the selflessness nature of Jesus Christ....

Speaking at the installation of the 'Rev Canon Christian Oscar'  as the dean of the St. Cyprains Cathedral,Kumasi,He urged the Christian leadership to desist from focusing on personal interest in the service of God.
He emphasized that Christian leadership is a vital role and likened it to the relationship that exist between the sheperd and the sheep.Sheperds would spill their sweat out to protect and feed their sheep and so must leaders of the Christian community seek for the collective interest of the people but not for their own self interest....

He said "Our Lord Jesus led a life of selflessness,he suffered,served and sacrificed for us,and for that

we are Servants of God,

We are Servants of our fellow christians

We are Servants to the world ...

He lauded the 'Rev'd Acting Dean' for good work done in his ministry as an Anglican priest and challenged him to do more exploits and add to the gains of his predecessors who had already come to serve the Cathedral..

Anglican Bishop's wife who was kidnapped has been released

Wife of the Anglican Bishop of Ikeduru Diocese in Imo State, Nigeria,Anuri Maduwuike, who on Friday was abducted by unknown gunmen, has been released. The Guardian gathered that she was released after an undisclosed amount of money was reportedly paid as ransom.

The bishop’s wife abducted at Ekemele in Ikeduru local council of the state while she was going home from Owerri. Her abductors set her free on Sunday evening.

A source in the church who spoke on condition of anonymity in Owerri yesterday said the kidnappers had earlier demanded N8 million ransom. He, however, refused to disclose how much was paid for the bishop’s wife to regain her freedom, but added that, “she was not released for free.”

He said: “To the glory of God, our bishop’s wife has been released. She was released on Sunday evening. Her kidnappers had initially demanded an N8 million ransom. God answered our prayer and she was released unhurt. She has been reunited with her family.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, could not be reached for comment at the time of filing this report but a police source, who pleaded for anonymity confirmed the development.

The Archbishop of the internal province of Ghana ; the Bishop of Kumasi would preside and be the chief installer of the occasion....The program is expected to be graced by Bishops,the clergy,high dignitaries, Diocesan officials and other representatives within the internal province of Ghana...

The 'Rev'd acting dean' succeeded the Very Rev. Elvis Kwame Acheampong and has been serving the Cathedral for few months as the the acting dean.
He obtained B.A(hons) at the University of Ghana, proceeded to obtain diploma in theology from the St. Nicholas Seminary,then had his PGDE at University of Cape coast and obtained his Msc(DEPP) at KNUST...He was the Principal of Sefwi wiawso college of education before his appointment as the dean of the Cathedral...

The nine (9) things you need to know about the Anglican Communion

1. Anglicanism is a tradition within Christianity comprising the Church of England and churches which are historically tied to it or have similar beliefs, worship practices and church structures. With a membership estimated at around 80 million members worldwide, the Anglican faith (including both those within the Anglican Communion and Anglicans outside of it) is the third largest Christian communion in the world, after the Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Churches.

2. The Anglican faith is often considered a reformed Catholicism, a hybrid between the Catholic and Protestant faiths. (For instance, one key dividing point between Anglicanism and Catholicism is the issue of absolute authority .


3. The Anglican Communion is an international association of churches consisting of the Church of England and of national and regional Anglican churches in full communion with that mother church. The status of full communion means that there is mutual agreement on essential doctrines and that full participation in the sacramental life of each church is available to all communicant Anglicans. There are also groups, such as those aligned with the Continuing Anglican movement or the Anglican realignment , whose relationship to the worldwide Anglican Communion is still being negotiated.

4. Although joined in a global communion, Anglicanism has no international juridical authority and each province is wholly self-governing. The 34 provinces, 4 United Churches, and 6 other churches of the Anglican Communion are autonomous, each with their own governing bishop and governing structure. Some take the form national churches (such as in England, Canada, and Japan), while others are a collection of nations (such as in Central Africa and South Asia) or geographical regions (such as Vanuatu and Solomon Islands). Some churches are extra provincial (for example, Bermuda aligns with Canterbury) or outside the Anglican Communion altogether.


5. The churches of the Anglican Communion are “linked by affection and common loyalty” and in communion with the See of Canterbury. The term “see” refers to the seat of a bishop, thus the “See of Canterbury” refers to the position held by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the highest ranking bishop in Canterbury, one of two ecclesiastical provinces which constitute the Church of England. The Archbishop of Canterbury is the spiritual leader and “focus of unity” for the Anglican Communion and head of the three “Instruments of Unity: The Archbishop calls the once-a-decade Lambeth Conference, chairs the meeting of Primates (i.e., chief archbishop or bishop of a province), and is President of the Anglican Consultative Council. The Archbishop of Canterbury is considered the primus inter pares , the first among equals, of the college of Primates.

6. Since there is no binding authority in the Anglican Communion (the Archbishop of Canterbury has no authority outside of his own province), the “Instruments of Unity” serve to hold the various churches and provinces together. The
Lambeth Conference is a gathering of bishops, meeting every ten years, the meeting of Primates takes place every two or three years for consultation on theological, social, and international issues, and the Anglican Consultative Council brings together bishops, presbyters, deacons, lay men and women, and youth, to work on common concerns.


7. The Chicago-Lambeth Quadrilateral (also known as the Lambeth Quadrilateral or the Lambeth-Chicago Quadrilateral) encapsulates the Communion’s unifying doctrine and serves as a primary guide for ecumenical discussion with other Christian denominations. The Lambeth Conference of 1888 passed Resolution 11 , which states:
That, in the opinion of this Conference, the following Articles supply a basis on which approach may be by God’s blessing made tow Home Reunion: (a) The Holy Scriptures of the and New Testaments, as “containing all things necessary to salvation,” and as being the rule ultimate standard of faith. (b) The Apostles’ C as the Baptismal Symbol; and the Nicene Cree the sufficient statement of the Christian faith. The two Sacraments ordained by Christ HimsBaptism and the Supper of the Lord—ministere with unfailing use of Christ’s words of Instituti and of the elements ordained by Him. (d) The Historic Episcopate, locally adapted in the met of its administration to the varying needs of th nations and peoples called of God into the Uni His Church.





8. The Book of Common Prayer is the foundational prayer book of Anglicanism. In 1549, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Thomas Cranmer, created the book by translating Latin Catholic liturgy into English , and infused the prayers with Protestant reform theology. The book became one of the great works of literature and influenced both the English language and the liturgies of other Christian traditions, particularly marriage and burial rites (e.g., “Dearly beloved: We have come together in the presence of God to witness and bless the joining together of this man and this woman in Holy Matrimony. . .”)


9. There are numerous terms that are unique to or have distinctive meanings when referring to Anglicanism, such as: bishop (a successor to one of the Twelve Apostles, who has been consecrated by other bishops), archbishop (a bishop who has additional responsibilities), communion (refers to both the Lord’s Supper and the Anglican Communion), curate (an assistant to the person in charge of a parish), deacon (the initial level of being ordained in the Anglican Church), diocese (fundamental unit of structure of the Anglican church, which contains many parishes and churches), Episcopal Church (The U.S. province of the Anglican Communion calls itself “The Episcopal Church”), parish (smallest unit of administration, usually consisting of only one church), province (administrative division of the church that is bigger than a diocese and smaller than the whole world), rector (a priest who is the leader of a self-supporting parish), and vicar (the priest in charge of a parish or mission that is supported financially from the outside).

A communique from GAFCON-Tanzania

WE, the undermentioned ten bishops of the Anglican Church of Tanzania, meeting at Holiday Inn, Dar es Salaam, on the 14th August 2019, after prayerful discussion, hereby issue this Communique.

PREAMBLE
Recognizing the need for us to contribute to the global movement seeking to renew the Anglican Communion through Gafcon;

Recollecting our experiences and commitments through our participation in the GAFCON Conferences (2008, 2013, 2018);

Recognizing the serious reality of the liberal agenda being pursued by some sections of the Anglican Communion; and

Seeing the need to reach out and equip Anglicans in Tanzania to remain faithful to the Gospel;

WE, THEREFORE, HEREBY STATE AS FOLLOWS:
1. That today, we have inaugurated a Gafcon Branch and those who attended the meeting are hereby constituted as an Interim Branch Council.

2. That, we re-affirm the position of the Anglican Church of Tanzania, that marriage is between one man and one woman in a life-long commitment, in accordance with Scripture and as affirmed by the Lambeth Conference 1998 Resolution I.10.

3. That, we re-affirm our subscription to the Jerusalem Statement and Declaration. We further commit to uphold the orthodox view of Scripture as the inspired Word of God, fully and finally authoritative for all matters of faith and conduct, and to faithfully maintain biblical doctrine, particularly as found in the Thirty-nine Articles of Religion and the 1662 Book of Common Prayer.

4. That, we re-affirm the position of the Anglican Church of Tanzania as contained in the 2006 Statement of the House of Bishops and subsequently ratified by the Provincial Standing Committee in 2007 and the Provincial Synod in 2008, which declared that the Anglican Church of Tanzania is not in communion with:

(a) Bishops who consecrate practicing homosexuals to the episcopate and those Bishops who ordain such persons to the priesthood and the deaconate or license them to minister in their dioceses;

(b) Bishops who permit the blessing of same sex unions in their dioceses;

(c) Priests and deacons in same-sex unions;

(d) Priests who bless same sex-unions.

5. That, we will develop and implement a strategy and programs to educate and equip Anglicans in Tanzania, both clergy and laity, to remain faithful to orthodox Biblical Anglicanism, participating in the global fellowship of Gafcon, including its networks.

6. That, we will not attend Lambeth 2020 – because it is organized and planned in such a way that bishops who have departed from the authority of Scripture as understood in historic Anglicanism are invited and bishops who are standing faithful to Scripture are excluded, in particular those from the Anglican Church in North America and the Anglican Church in Brazil.

7. That, we are thankful to God for the election of the Rt Rev Dr Mwita Akiri as Branch Chairman and the Rt Rev Dr Elias Chakupewa as Branch Treasurer.

Rev. Canon. Dr. Paul Appiah Sekyere elected as Bishop of Dunkwa Diocese

Rev'd Canon Dr. Appiah Sekyere has been elected as the Bishop of the Diocese of Dunkwa-on-Offin. This is prior to the recent retirement of the RT. Rev. Edmund Dawson Amoah,former Bishop of the said Diocese..


The Bishop-elect is  the Priest in Charge of Rev’d Thomas Thompson Anglican Church, Ola, Cape Coast and a senior lecturer at the University of Cape Coast.
He has about six publications'.......

The Diocese of Dunkwa-on-Offin is one of the youngest diocese in the province of Ghana..it was formed from the Diocese of  Cape Coast.

The jurisdiction of the Diocese covers the Northern part of the Central region of  Ghana ( the Upper East and Western Denkyira)
Their vision is to serve the community through Evangelism, Educational and Economic programs. 

Ven. Canon Dennis Tong elected as Bishop of Tamale Diocese

Venerable Canon Dennis Tong, Parish Priest of the Saint Cyprian Anglican Church in Bolgatanga has been elected the Bishop of the Tamale Diocese of the Anglican Church. 

He takes over from the Right Reverend Dr Jacob Kofi Ayeebo, who died in February this year. 

The election took place on the 11th of July with Venerable Tong polling 74 votes out of a total of 111 delegates who casted their votes...

The election was described by the delegates as wonderfully peaceful, soberly conducted and spirit filled. 



The delegates were drawn from the 14 parishes comprising 34 outstations made up of 40 clergy and 81 laity who constituted the Electoral body..

The Archbishop of the Internal Province of Ghana,Most Rev. Daniel Yinka Sarfo would install him as the Diocesan Bishop. This is in accordance with the Constitution of the  Church..

His installation is expected to come off this September at the St. Cyprains Cathedral,Kumasi..It is known that Other two Bishop elect would also be installed...

The Venerable Tong has held several positions in various church Associations and groupings, including chairman of Christian Council Churches in the Upper East Region, a member of the Upper East Regional Media Advisory Committee, a member of the Upper East Regional Peace Council, and a member of the Upper East Regional Prisons Ministry.

Lead fight against Indiscipline--Ang. Bishop urges Christians

Bishop of Koforidua Diocese

The Bishop of the Koforidua Diocese of the Anglican Church, Rt Rev Felix Odei Annancy has called on Christians to lead the fight against indiscipline in the church and in society.

He explained that indiscipline was the root cause of corruption which is the cause of widespread poverty in the country.

Bishop Annancy was speaking at the last year's opening of the first session of the 13th synod of the Koforidua Diocese of the Anglican Church at Kwabeng in the Atiwa West District in the Eastern Region.

The synod is being organized on the theme “Being missional and evangelizing church” and is being attended by 140 delegates from the parishes of the church in the diocese.

Bishop Annancy said research indicated that there was direct relationship between the rate of corruption and the rate of poverty in the country.

He reminded Christians that by the teachings of their faith, they were expected to provide leadership and be agents of positive change in the society.
Bishop Annancy urged the leadership of the various parishes of the church in the diocese to create an enabling environment for the youth to make them feel relevant.

He charged the parishes to come out with plans for expansion and planting of new churches in the communities and towns around them using evangelism, crusades and other outreach programmes.

Bishop of Ashanti Mampong

Rt Rev Cyril Ben Smith, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Ashanti Mampong called on the Christian church to embark on one village one church to spread Christianity to all communities in the country.

He said lack of aggression to spread Christianity had created space for some magicians who were calling themselves as “bishops and prophets” to enter the available spaces and make pronouncements and introduce religious practices that were alien to the Christian faith.

Mary Sumner day, Mothers Union worldwide celebrates Founders day.

Mary Sumner
(31 December 1828—11 August 1921)
 was the founder of the Mothers' Union , a worldwide Anglican women's organisation.

In 1876 Mary Sumner, a clergyman’s wife living in nearby Old Alresford, became concerned about how local mothers related their Christian faith to family life. Wanting to encourage them she founded a small group called the Mothers’ Union. She lived to see it become a worldwide organisation, now with millions of members.

Sumner died on 11 August 1921 at the age of 92, and is buried with her husband, who had died 12 years before, in the grounds of
Winchester Cathedral .
